I am done with blue face syndrome. I am sick of seeing it, and blue face has to change. If we do not start making etiquette a priority, we could be in real trouble. I can't believe the amount of blue faces I see every day. You are probably worrying about what blue face syndrome is. It is failure to communicate with others because you are staring at your phones, iPods, all other digital devices. I call it blue face because in dim light their faces are blue. It is a real problem!
I have seen couples on dates texting instead of communicating face to face. I see mothers on their phones and ignoring their children. I can't believe the amount of texting or phone surfing happening while walking down a business or school aisle. We are losing the art of communication, and we have to do something about it.
Do not get me wrong! I love having information at my finger tips, and technology evolution is incredible! However, we are losing our beauty. Being beUtofull means the ability to love and help others. When you are on your smart phone and not communicating with the person in front of our face, you are actually hurting yourself. Human contact is necessary for us to thrive; it keeps us civil. When you are in a conversation with another human being, it takes your brain 15 seconds to switch conversations with full focus. So if you are on your phone texting, reading, Instagraming, Facebooking and someone is speaking to you, your brain is fully focused on one of the tasks, not both. We can hear random words and try to keep up, but the reality is you and your brain cannot. That means when you walk around with a blue face, you are in the digital world, not the real world.
Humans need human contact. If a baby is neglected (not picked up, cuddled, or cared for in their first year of life), they develop RADS, a social disorder that makes it hard for them to cope in human society. Orphan s from the Cold War demonstrated this . When we communicate with other human beings, our stress levels actually drop. The warmth and attention from another person calms our stress and internally give us more peace. This is why we need to establish some basic etiquette. It might be uncomfortable at first but is necessary if we want to continue to thrive.
If you are in a conversation and your phone pings, you wait to answer the call or text until the conversation is done or you excuse yourself for this important call. When you are in a social atmosphere, put your phone away. Even if you are not engaged in a conversation, looking up and being a part of the environment will allow you the opportunity to create a memory or make a friend. If you are shopping or in any business establishment, do not stay on your phone and waive people around to serve you. Finish one conversation or task before starting another. Businesses and servers deserve your attention. Texts and emails can wait to receive an answer from you. If it is a super important call, you should answer, of course.
We are becoming so blue faced that we are hurting each other along with ourselves. Beauty is more than the way you look in a picture or on the street it is who you are and those you love. STOP the blue face epidemic, and remember true beauty starts with a face to face smile, not just a selfie with you smiling.
