No!
Unless you are rolling in mud every day or are a hormone-ridden teenager, you most likely do NOT need to wash your hair every day! As a hairstylist people often tell me if they don’t wash it every day, it gets greasy. What they don’t realize is washing your hair every day MAKES it greasy. Say whaaat?
Yeah. It’s a vicious cycle. When you shampoo your hair, you are clearing off the naturally-occurring oils your scalp produces. This signals the scalp to produce more oils to replace what you washed away. If you’re doing this every day, your scalp will become used to replacing those oils every. single. day. So when you finally decide to try shampooing every other day, like your hair stylist suggested, your scalp is still on overdrive, making it appear as though washing every day is your only option. You need to give it time! We call it training your scalp. Your scalp will sooner or later realize it can slow down with the oil production, and you will be able to avoid feeling like a total grease ball the day you don’t wash your hair. Some people are able to train their scalp to slow down to the point they are only washing it every three days. And some darn lucky people can go with only one wash a week. Unfortunately, that will never be me. I do have a scalp that is just naturally more oily, but I can definitely get away with washing every other day. A product that can help give your hair a fresh look by taking away some of that oil is dry shampoo. Avoid ones that leave a dulling residue. It may take a few tries to find one you really like. Don't get discouraged! Once you find the one, it will become your hair BFF.
