What is the largest organ of our body? What helps you describe the ethnicity of others? What protects you from the environment and keeps everything in and working? It's your skin (epidermis)! It's honestly probably the most abused organ of our whole body. We let it be exposed to all temperatures, dirt, filth, environmental toxins. Then when we clean it, we are probably stripping it more. We need to be nicer to such an important part of who we are and how we look.
First, we need to nourish our skin. Living in Idaho, our air is extremely dry. Our skin is not receiving any moisture from outside. (If we get moisture it is normally frozen. Your skin can't really absorb that.) We need to feed our skin, not just put lotion on it. If you put cheap lotion from the dollar store or generic brand, you are not helping your skin. You are actually hurting it. You are making it addicted to a drying agent which makes you use more and buy more without results (big company secrets to keep consumers).
To save you time and money, just look for certain words on the back of your bottles. This will help your skin and make you feel and look better. Here are the secret words: Panthenol, Aloe, Vitamin E, Lanolin , Shea butter, and certain extracts such as coconut, avocado, sunflower and melon. These ingredients feed your skin.
You also need to protect your skin. If you wear makeup, you should always wear a primer. This will keep the makeup from going into your pores and giving you acne or blackheads. You should always find a primer and makeup with at least SPF15. You will always be exposed to UVA rays. These rays are so strong they can penetrate through glass, so it is still possible to get a sunburn in your home even if you never go outside. This will age and hurt your skin.
Lastly, you need to prevent damage to your skin. Your outer epidermis (skin) replaces itself about every 35 days. Our body will completely replace itself in about 7 years. This is why it is so important to start today. Our bodies fix themselves at night while we sleep, so how you treat your skin before bed is how you will look and feel when you wake up. So your preventative care should be done before you hit the pillow . Wash and moisturize your skin every night. This will remove environmental toxins, dirt, smog, grease, smoke, etc. Then if you feed it the right stuff, you can actually look healthy and younger longer. Take care of your skin today. You will see a difference in a month.
We use our skin all the time. We ask so much of it, yet we forget to take care of it. Then we are frustrated when our skin looks aged and damaged. Treat yourself as good as you do others, and you will find a happier, more beautiful life!
