I am going to tell you something you probably thought would never come out of my mouth or column, but I feel you need to know this. You are just not that special. WHAT?! I am going to say it again. YOU are just not that special. I get clients that struggle with baldness, psoriasis, hair growing on their face and down their back. Most all of them worry that they are the only one with these problems. Not only that, but they also sabotage their lives because they think the world is staring at their "flaws".
You are just not that special. Did you know that 2/3 of all men will experience some hair loss by the time they are 35? By 50 years old that jumps to 85%. This means, with all the boys and men on the planet, 28.409% are plagued with some hair loss.
You are just not that special. If you live in a dry climate like Idaho or Wyoming you will at some point experience dry, itchy, flaky scalp. Not to mention if you suffer from dandruff or psoriasis, you have a medical condition that will create a flaky scalp. This does not make you special. In fact, about 60% of the world's population is struggling with this same problem at this very moment.
You are just not that special. There are 4 million pre-menopausal women out there who are struggling with male pattern hair growth . Last year alone 1.5 billion dollars were spent in the hair removal industry. Hirsutism (male pattern hair growth in women) before menopause plagues at least 1 in 8 women.
I cannot believe the amount of people wearing hats because they are balding or have flaky scalps. I cannot believe the extreme measures people inflict on themselves because of unwanted hair on their bodies. Most of all I am so sad to hear all the people who choose not to live because of what they suppose to be a huge flaw that makes them unique. No one wants to talk about it, and addressing the issue seems to be a struggle for most. But guess what?! You are not that special. I know you want to be the only one struggling with these problems, and I know that you assume everyone can see your flaws and that is all they see. But the truth of the matter is we all have them, and we are all super conscious of our flaws. But I promise the world is not. It is too preoccupied with themselves and celebrities to find all your flaws. All that matters is that you are your best self. If these are problems for you, see a professional and let them help you. You are not alone. This is not what makes you special. YOU are! The way you love and help others is way more important to the world than the fact that you have too little or too much hair, flaky or dry scalp. Be your best you!
